Usmana Akhtar Jamal
A writer of Urdu short stories, ghazals and essays — from a literary family of Lucknow, writing from America. Her work has appeared in magazines and newspapers across India, Pakistan, America and Europe.
In her own words
I come from a respected, educated family of Lucknow, and grew up in a very literary home. After my marriage I came to America. Writing is my hobby — my passion. I write in Urdu, Hindi and English.
I have loved writing since childhood, and used to send my work out under different names; it was published, too. After a long while my story Ghair se Rishta appeared in Pakeeza Aanchal, Delhi. Since then my stories, poetry and essays have been published steadily in magazines, websites, forums and newspapers in India, Pakistan, America and Europe.
I have always loved learning, and learning languages most of all — and I have followed both. I took my degrees in India and went on studying in America.

میرا تعلق لکھنؤ کے معزز تعلیم یافتہ گھرانے سے ہے۔ گھر کا بہت ادبی ماحول تھا۔ شادی کے بعد امریکا آ گئی۔ لکھنا میری ہابی یا شوق ہے۔ میں اردو، ہندی اور انگلش میں لکھتی ہوں۔ بچپن سے لکھنے کا شوق تھا، مختلف ناموں سے اپنی تخلیقات بھیجتی تھی جو شائع بھی ہو جاتی تھیں۔ بہت عرصے بعد میرا افسانہ ’’غیر سے رشتہ‘‘ پاکیزہ آنچل دہلی انڈیا میں شائع ہوا۔ اس کے بعد سے مستقل میرے افسانے، شاعری اور مضامین ہندوستان، پاکستان، امریکا اور یورپ وغیرہ کے پرچوں، ویب سائٹ، فورمز اور اخباروں میں شائع ہو رہے ہیں۔ مجھے تعلیم حاصل کرنے اور مختلف زبانیں سیکھنے کا بہت شوق رہا ہے۔ میں نے یہ سارے شوق بھی پورے کیے۔ انڈیا سے ڈگریاں لیں اور امریکا میں بھی اپنی تعلیم جاری رکھی۔
